How do you solve hunger in Africa? For Roger Bird, founder of CoolCap, this wasn’t a philosophical question, but a practical one. His answer was to create a self-sustaining program to provide smallholders (farmers with less that 5 acres of land) with modern mechanized farm equipment. The equipment ends back-breaking labor, eliminates needless drudgery, and creates great secondary effects, like allowing children go to school instead of working in the fields.
We helped Roger refine his messaging, redesigned his website to focus on gathering donations, and created a series of simple information graphics that explain how CoolCap works that he has been able to use on the site, in brochures, business plans, grant applications, etc. But our favorite project is probably a little four page brochure that’s printed on paper embedded with seeds. You can read it, and then plant it and enjoy the sunflowers. And while you’re enjoying them, make sure to donate to a truly worthy cause.
