The Year of the Pitcher

The release of the versatile and prolific Sridhar Pappu’s book The Year of the Pitcher meant one thing to us: a chance to update his site. We really wanted to feature photos of the pitchers in question, the Cardinal’s Bob Gibson and the Tiger’s Denny MacLaine, but we didn’t have the usage rights (and we take that kind of thing seriously). So instead, we hand drew a sequence of poses of a pitcher letting one go, and interspersed them with some publicly available imagery of the stadiums and the events of that tumultuous year. (Cardinals fans to the last, we drew all the  poses to mimic Gibson’s throwing motions, but try not to mention that in Detroit,)
